• Piestewa Peak some time ago Squaw Peak), at 2,610 feet (796 m) is the second most elevated point in the Phoenix Mountains, after Camelback Mountain, and the third most noteworthy in the city of Phoenix, Arizona. It is situated in the Piestewa Peak Recreation Area inside the Phoenix Mountain Preserve, close Piestewa Parkway (Arizona State Highway 51). Piestewa Peak is named to pay tribute to Army Spc. Lori Ann Piestewa, the primary realized Native American lady to kick the bucket in battle in the U.S. military, and the primary female trooper to be executed in real life in the 2003 Iraq War. 

     

    Since at any rate 1910, the name Squaw Peak had been utilized in reference to the mountain. Other memorable names included Squaw Tit Mountain, Phoenix Mountain and Vainom Do'ag, the Pima name for the mountain. As the expression "squaw" is viewed as harsh by a few, various endeavors to change the name of the mountain were made as the years progressed.
